  • Program Description

    We live in a world where quick responding is considered an essential skill; however, many children feel left behind.  This talk will provide participants with an overview of processing speed and its relationship to today’s quick-paced lifestyles, classroom environments and home lives.  Difficulties with processing speed cut across disorder such as learning disabilities, developmental disorders and ADHD.  The program will provide an overview of these issues, including the biology and neuropsychology of processing speed, how it manifests in classrooms and social relationships, and what professionals and parents can to do accommodate and help their students overcome it.

    • The participants will have a better understanding of the biology and neuropsychology of processing speed.
    • The participants will learn how processing speed manifests in the classroom, learning and home environments.
    • The participants will increase their understanding of how processing speed can affect social relationships
    • The participants will gain knowledge of how best to accommodate and help students with slow processing speed

    Ellen B. Braaten, PhD


    Dr. Ellen Braaten is the Director of the Learning and Emotional Assessment Program (LEAP) at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Associate Director of The MGH Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds.  She is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School.  She has been affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital since 1998.  Dr. Braaten is widely recognized as an expert in the field of pediatric neuropsychological and psychological assessment, particularly in the areas of assessing learning disabilities and attentional disorders.  She is the co-author of Straight Talk about Psychological Testing for Kids, a book that has become a classic for parents and professionals.  She has also written The Child Clinician’s Report Writing Handbook, which has been called “the most comprehensive child assessment handbook available.”  Dr. Braaten also published Finding the Right Mental Health Care for Your Child in 2009 and her newest book, Bright Kids Who Can’t Keep Up was published in 2014.  Dr. She is also frequently asked to write articles for parenting and consumer publications and maintains an active speaking schedule.

    Intended Audience: This workshop is appropriate for parents and professionals who are working with children and adolescents with slow processing speed. This includes but is not limited to: psychologists, educators, social workers, counselors, speech and occupational therapists, school personnel, nurses and medical practitioners.

    Luncheon: A gourmet, farm to table, buffet luncheon will be provided at 12:00 as part of your registration.

  • CEU Information

    Continuing Education credit for this program have been approved for through Commonwealth Educational Seminars (CES) for the following professions.

    Psychologists: Commonwealth Educational Seminars (CES) is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to offer continuing education credit programs. CES maintains responsibility for this program. Psychologists receive 6 hours of continuing education credit upon completing this program.

    Social Workers: Commonwealth Educational Seminars, provider #1117, is approved as a Provider for Social Work Continuing Education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.  ASWB approval prod: October 12, 2015 through October 15, 2018.  CES maintains responsibility for the program.  Social Workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval.  Social Workers participating in this course will receive 6 clinical continuing education clock hours.

    Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors, Certified Professional Counselors, Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors: will be awarded 6 clock hours through CESCommonwealth Educational Seminars (CES) can grant Continuing Education credit for the above listed professions in the following states: AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, ME, MA, MO, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NC, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, VT, VA, WA, WI, WY.

    Nurses: As an American Psychological Association approved proved CES programs are accepted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).  Every state Board of Nursing accepts ANCC approved programs except California and Iowa, however CES is also an approved Continuing Education provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing, (Provider #CEP15567) which is also accepted by the Iowa Board of Nursing. Nurses compleing this program receive 6 CE hours of credit.

    Licensed Professional Counselors: In Maine, CE's are granted to LPCs and LCPCs for completing programs directly related to professional counseling.  Attendees must retain their certificate and the program agenda.  CES maintains responsibility for this program.  Maine LCPCs attending this program will receive 6 continuing education clock hours.

    Speech and Language Pathologists: We are in the process of applying for ASHA certification.  Until the approval is fine we have been advised to give SLPs and Audiologists a "Verification of Attendance" form.


    Transdisciplinary Workshops, Inc. will proved 6 CEUs for Maine Psychologists, 6 clock hour certificates for Maine Educators.


    University of Maine will offer .6 continuing education credits for this workshop.


  • Cancellation Policy

    If you need to cancel your registration prior to the event, you will receive a credit towards any future workshop with us within 5 years.

    We must receive cancellation notice, credit will not be given if you do not cancel prior to the event.
